About Me!

Dear Reader,
My name is Maya Steinke. I am a junior English education major with a music minor at Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL. I am in ENG 281 this semester, which is Digital Writing and Multimedia Texts. The major assignment for this course is to create a blog and post to it using concepts we learn in class. I'm walking into this experience with no knowledge of how to navigate this site or create media for an online platform, so please bear with me!

I'm not sure what I'll be posting about yet. I'm assuming it'll be a wide variety of things. Some ideas I have right now are hair care, politics, class assignments, and creative writing.

I'd love to explain the title of this blog as well! I loved wearing tiaras as a child. Last year, I was having a rough day. I went to Walmart to walk around before meeting friends and decided to buy a small tiara I saw. For the next few weeks, I wore the tiara in my college dorm whenever I was feeling stressed or sad. I noticed a significant change in my self-confidence and mood. I decided I needed more power, so I bought another, much bigger, tiara. I wear them often to help me focus on homework or to give me the extra push I need to get through the rest of the day.

As for the other part of the title, I'm sure you will be able to understand where that comes from after a few posts. I'm extremely passionate about human rights, climate change, women's reproductive rights, Black Lives Matter, gun control, LGBTQ+ rights, and mental health. I love to argue and rant to anyone who will listen using the power of the English language!

Thank you so much for coming to my page, dear reader. If you don't own your own tiara or crown, I highly suggest you purchase one for yourself. You can find affordable ones on Amazon, Etsy, or even Walmart! I hope you'll be wearing your own tiara the next time you visit my page.
